„Bonvoy is continuing to grow. We started about 5 years ago with 110 million members. We're now at 182 million members.“

, 16:22

So nice to see new faces here on the Hotel Podcast, and now even from UK, huh?

  4. 00:17
    Christian Michel

    Absolutely, yes.

  5. 00:18
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Where was the picture taken?

  6. 00:19
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Well, this, this great picture is just the one that we just started operating it in Dubai, on the Palm.

  7. 00:24
    Arnoud Vink

    Dubai, okay.

  8. 00:25
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Yeah, it's on the Palm, so it's a rooftop pool. You will see the Atlantis. You'll see both the Atlantises, The Palm and Atlantis The Royal in the middle.

  9. 00:33
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Yeah, yeah, okay.

  10. 00:34
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

So it's absolutely great. It's one of the newest properties that we have. We just opened on the 15th of April this year.

  11. 00:41
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, so your company is called Chival Collection?

  12. 00:43
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Correct, yes.

  13. 00:45
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Where does the Chival Collection come from? What's— just a few sentences.

  14. 00:49
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

I'll give you a brief background. Chival Collection has 3 brands under it: Chival Residences, Chival Maison, and My Lucanda. They offer different things. Shival has been around for the past 40-odd years, and only in 2018-19 we restructured the company completely. So it will enable us to go beyond London, operate other people's assets. And now we have 9 in London, 3 in Edinburgh, 2 under construction in Glasgow.

  15. 01:17
    Max C. Luscher

    Mm-hmm.

  16. 01:17
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

One will open next year, '24, and one will open in 2025. We just opened one in Dubai. We are working on many in the Middle East. Another one in Dubai hopefully we'll be signing by next month. Different location, different owner. And again, we are talking to people in Jeddah, in Riyadh, in Doha, and even in Europe, in pan-Europe quite a lot. Be it Portugal, be it Italy. So these are very, very advanced negotiations, but we are very excited.

  17. 01:45
    Markus Lehnert

    Cool.

  18. 01:45
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Nice. I just remember I sent out a newsletter a few weeks ago. where I put the sentence that my dream is to record a Hotel Podcast in London one day. So I think today I came a little bit closer.

  19. 01:58
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Absolutely, always, always. Yes, yeah, and Edinburgh as well, both. Okay, both.

  20. 02:04
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    So let's meet in London.

  21. 02:05
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Absolutely.

  22. 02:06
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Thank you, thank you very much.

  24. 02:11
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

For your participation here today in Berlin, and all the best, and see you soon.

  25. 02:16
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Great, lovely. Thank you. Thanks.

  26. 02:17
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So now we have to switch to English.

  27. 02:19
    Markus Lehnert

    No problem.

  28. 02:20
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    I forgot.

  29. 02:22
    Arlett Hoff

    I see.

  30. 02:22
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So we are both from Switzerland and Germany. You're working for StayCook or the SW Hotels. So tell me a little bit about SW and StayCook.

  31. 02:31
    Arlett Hoff

Well, SW is a white label operator. We've got 20 hotels in the portfolio at this point, and we operate under franchise brands. But we also have our own brand called StayCook, which is an extended stay product. Very clever design, cleverly designed and space efficient. And we have 2 StayCooks open at this point in Switzerland. And we are looking forward to opening the other 5 that we have in construction as we speak.

  32. 03:03
    Navneet Bali

    5?

  33. 03:03
    Arlett Hoff

Yes, under construction. The next one will be most likely, it will be Geneva. in January, well anyways, beginning of next year, and a few weeks later will be our big German launch of the brand, which will be LikeStay.

  34. 03:19
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Our first one in Germany.

  35. 03:20
    Arlett Hoff

First one in Germany. Very excited about that. Big showcase property also because it's quite big in number of units. It's going to have 132 units.

  36. 03:29
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, so it's much more than the 2 in Bern.

  37. 03:32
    Arlett Hoff

Yes, yes, yes, yes. It's going to be a mix of short stay, rooms and extended stay studios. So also that is new for us.

  38. 03:43
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Yeah.

  39. 03:43
    Arlett Hoff

And we'll see, yeah, how that's gonna pan out in the market. Very excited in any case.

  40. 03:51
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  41. 03:51
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Are there any other cities you're still looking for, for number 8 and 9, or?

  42. 03:55
    Arlett Hoff

Look, we are looking all over the place.

  43. 03:58
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Let's ask the audience of Hotel Podcast.

  44. 03:59
    Arlett Hoff

This is my daily job because I'm in charge of expansion. So my job—

  45. 04:05
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    That's why I ask you.

  46. 04:07
    Arlett Hoff

Clever you. We are indeed very interested for now in the DACH region, all the major primary, secondary, even potentially tertiary cities. But we are also in the process of widening up towards the larger European geographics. More on that will need to follow at a later point. This is just a little teaser that yes, we are considering the European expansion. We really want to grow faster and we want to build this brand faster. So we see this as a huge opportunity.

  47. 04:45
    Markus Lehnert

    Yeah.

  48. 04:46
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So I know of course StayCook very well and I really recommend everyone to come to Bern and soon to Leipzig or Geneva to discover this.

  49. 04:55
    Arlett Hoff

We'd be very happy to host and show around. And we've got lots of interest of potential investors and owners to actually physically see the product and it'll make my job much easier as well in convincing.

  50. 05:07
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Annett, thanks a lot.

  51. 05:09
    Arlett Hoff

    Pleasure.

  52. 05:10
    Markus Lehnert

    For today.

  53. 05:11
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Looking forward to our longer episode one day, and perhaps, why not, in Leipzig or in your first German property?

  54. 05:16
    Arlett Hoff

That would be a good opportunity, wouldn't it?

  55. 05:18
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Cool. See you.

  56. 05:19
    Navneet Bali

    Thanks.

  57. 05:20
    Arlett Hoff

    See you.

  58. 05:20
    Arnoud Vink

    Bye.

  59. 05:20
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Navneet, welcome on the Hotel Podcast, to Hotel Podcast, and congratulations to your first, yeah, hotel in Frankfurt.

  60. 05:32
    Navneet Bali

    Thank you very much.

  61. 05:33
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    I think you opened yesterday.

  62. 05:34
    Navneet Bali

Opened yesterday. The baby is born.

  63. 05:36
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

The baby is born and already alone because you were here in Berlin.

  64. 05:39
    Navneet Bali

One day old, but we want many more babies now.

  65. 05:43
    Arnoud Vink

    Okay.

  66. 05:43
    Navneet Bali

    Yeah.

  67. 05:44
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Tell me a little bit about your background. Where do you come from?

  68. 05:47
    Navneet Bali

So I come from India, originally from— grew up in India.

  69. 05:51
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  70. 05:51
    Navneet Bali

Worked for a company called the Tata Group.

  71. 05:53
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay, I know it.

  72. 05:54
    Navneet Bali

Yeah. One of the largest companies in India, which also has a hotel chain called the Taj. I'm an engineer by training. So I joined them because they're largely an engineering company, but I stumbled into hotels because they have this large Taj Hotel Group and they posted me to London because they were expanding outside India. So I worked with them for 18 years, left them, joined e-bookers, online travel agency. So I've been in the online travel side. Went back to hotels in private equity as an investor.

  73. 06:21
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  74. 06:21
    Navneet Bali

Did a deal with InterContinental Hotels to build Holiday Inn Express. So from luxury, I've gone to budget. Taj was luxury.

  75. 06:28
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  76. 06:28
    Navneet Bali

And then I joined a company which had acquired Meidinger Hotels. Uh-huh. Okay. I became its CEO.

  77. 06:33
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Yeah.

  78. 06:33
    Navneet Bali

In 2012 and took it over, an existing hotel company based out of Berlin.

  79. 06:39
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  80. 06:39
    Navneet Bali

    Which had 13 hotels.

  81. 06:40
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Uh-huh.

  82. 06:41
    Navneet Bali

I grew it to now it's about 34, 35 hotels.

  83. 06:44
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  84. 06:45
    Navneet Bali

And I left them at the pandemic after 7 years or 8 years.

  85. 06:47
    Markus Lehnert

    Okay.

  86. 06:48
    Arlett Hoff

    Yeah.

  87. 06:48
    Navneet Bali

In 2020, didn't know what to do with, you know, pandemic times.

  88. 06:52
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  89. 06:52
    Navneet Bali

And Meidinger and its landlord in Frankfurt hotel that they had Ah, okay. And they decided to part company.

  90. 06:59
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Yeah, yeah.

  91. 06:59
    Navneet Bali

Right? And so that hotel was available without a brand on the door. I know the hotel.

  92. 07:04
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay, nice.

  93. 07:05
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  94. 07:05
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

You know the hotel, you know the neighborhood, you know.

  95. 07:07
    Navneet Bali

And I had this idea of what's the next stage after Meininger? What should be the next version of Meininger?

  96. 07:13
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay. Okay.

  97. 07:14
    Navneet Bali

This hotel was available, also Meininger without the Meininger. So Livin was created.

  98. 07:19
    Markus Lehnert

    Nice.

  99. 07:19
    Navneet Bali

So Livin is effectively hotel-hostel hybrid.

  100. 07:23
    Arnoud Vink

    Yeah.

  101. 07:23
    Navneet Bali

Like Meininger, combination of shared rooms and individual rooms. But I've also added extended stay into it. It's meant for young people, like digital nomads, so-called. So meant for young people. So the design is catering for young people. They can book a room or book a bed, or they can book it for a longer period.

  102. 07:43
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  103. 07:43
    Navneet Bali

And we provide coworking desks, not desks as such, but an area where you can do coworking. In fact, if you— I don't know if the picture—

  104. 07:51
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    No, it's fine.

  105. 07:53
    Navneet Bali

That's the area, the common area. You have a place you can have breakfast, you can have lunch, you can have coffee, you can work from there. In the evenings, it's a bar area. You can have drinks there. I mean, for example, in Frankfurt, the Livin in Frankfurt, which opened yesterday, will have the best cocktails in town.

  106. 08:12
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay. So, so, you know, after only one day.

  107. 08:14
    Navneet Bali

Yeah, we've got the best mixologists. He's the number 2 bartender.

  108. 08:21
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  109. 08:21
    Navneet Bali

All right. And he's Portuguese and he's absolutely creating the staff, which are very young, into mixologists as well. So the point I'm making is that it's not just a budget hotel or something like that. It's actually something I hope will create an event for people in Frankfurt living nearby to come and say, hey, I want to have a drink in this fantastic bar. Cool.

  110. 08:47
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So let's meet again in Frankfurt for a longer episode of the Hotel Podcast.

  111. 08:52
    Navneet Bali

    Exactly.

  112. 08:53
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And having a drink, of course, 1 or 2 or 3. Yeah, cool. Looking forward to it. And all the best for your new baby.

  113. 08:58
    Navneet Bali

    Thank you.

  114. 08:59
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    And yeah, see you soon.

  115. 09:00
    Navneet Bali

    Thank you.

  116. 09:01
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Bye-bye.

  117. 09:01
    Navneet Bali

    Bye.

  118. 09:01
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

You are back on the Hotel Podcast. Max Luscher from B&B Hotels. Nice.

  119. 09:07
    Max C. Luscher

This appearance is now number 3 already, right?

  120. 09:09
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Yeah, it's number 3. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

  121. 09:14
    Max C. Luscher

Once online, once in our office.

  122. 09:15
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Ah yeah, you're right. Okay, so 3 times, but one thing we didn't do so far. So a red wine, glass of red wine in my vineyard.

  123. 09:24
    Max C. Luscher

Oh, we didn't do it yet. No, I have to travel to beautiful Württemberg.

  124. 09:29
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Yeah, but I enjoyed the wine I took with me last time.

  125. 09:34
    Max C. Luscher

    The B&B house wine.

  126. 09:35
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

The B&B house wine, yeah. So thanks again for this. So many things are happening at B&B hotels. And I stopped counting the number of hotels. I stopped counting too. How is UK going on?

    Max C. Luscher

It's good. We've just hired Patrick O'Connell. He came from Queensgate Capital as CEO for the region, which was always the plan. So Kevin Murray, the development MD, reports directly to him, which gives a little bit of relief to me.

  128. 10:02
    Arnoud Vink

    Okay.

  129. 10:03
    Max C. Luscher

Which is good. So I'm more now the sparing part to help. I think we've initiated the start. We're now in the first transactions, lease negotiations and so on. Certainly a bit of difficult times these days. Some things we hope for being quicker, but we are absolutely on track. So we'll probably have next time we meet here the first hotels up and running.

  130. 10:28
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, so next time here means in 1 year or when do we meet?

  131. 10:33
    Max C. Luscher

Well, if you come next week, we don't have the hotel up and running.

  132. 10:37
    Arnoud Vink

    Okay, Max.

  133. 10:39
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Thanks again for this update. Is there anything else to share, or what are your next projects you're working on?

  134. 10:45
    Max C. Luscher

No, thanks to you all out there, whoever listens to. Next projects are very simple. You know, we try to beat the market. We try to find the right investment partners. Many opportunities out there. Certainly a bit crazy. I mean, you know, I'm 44. Looking in the mirror this morning, I look like 45. So tomorrow morning, probably 46. I find those events always very exciting but tiring at the same time. But certainly this was a very good and relaxed moment chatting to you. So thanks very much for your invitation.

  135. 11:15
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

It was a short episode this time, but I'm looking forward to the next longer one.

  136. 11:19
    Max C. Luscher

Appearance number 3, number 4 to come.

  137. 11:21
    Navneet Bali

    Okay, cool.

  138. 11:22
    Max C. Luscher

    See you.

  139. 11:23
    Navneet Bali

    Bye.

  140. 11:24
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So I talked to so many interesting new faces today here in Berlin, and you're the next one, Hakan, from a company called Ando Living. Tell us a little bit about yourself, about Ando.

  141. 11:38
    Hakan Kodal

Well, first of all, we are a service department brand born in Portugal, Lisbon.

  142. 11:45
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Nice.

  143. 11:45
    Hakan Kodal

But it's not just an apartment to stay or live. It's a project to connect people, international travelers and locals alike. So it's a community project driven by, you know, business and leisure. And so it's connecting people, and we are building clubhouses in cities, and we choose friendly neighborhoods. We do a clubhouse for locals alike. We bring people in, and then from these clubhouses, we connect multiple buildings in the neighborhood. So we can do a lot of serviced apartments in multiple buildings. So it's not just one building.

  144. 12:27
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  145. 12:27
    Hakan Kodal

It's multiple buildings. in a neighborhood with a clubhouse so that people feel that they are not going into an apartment, they are going into their neighborhood. So Ando Living is your neighborhood wherever you go.

  146. 12:38
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  147. 12:39
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    And it's in Lisbon?

  148. 12:40
    Hakan Kodal

We started in Lisbon, then Porto, then now we're in multiple locations. We have 5 clubhouses under development in Portugal. We're reaching 1,500 apartments overall in Portugal. And we are— we have also signed new clubhouses and townhouses in Istanbul now. We're looking to London, Paris. We have to be in Europe. We're targeting to get to 20 clubhouses and 5,000 apartments in 8 different countries. So we are willing to cooperate. We want to be in Berlin. So if you have, you know, partners, building owners, developers interested with our concept, so that's why you are here. We'd love to partner.

  149. 13:24
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, cool. Yeah, I had a very good time in Lisbon last year when a very good friend of mine had his marriage there in Lisbon.

  150. 13:33
    Hakan Kodal

    So it's very popular.

  151. 13:35
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And next time I know where to go to, where to sleep.

  152. 13:37
    Hakan Kodal

    Exactly. Come to Ando Living.

  153. 13:41
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  154. 13:41
    Hakan Kodal

Wherever you go, hopefully you will find— What's the meaning of Ando? Ando has a couple of meanings. It's, you know, ando andare, it's ando in Spanish and Portuguese, it's let's go.

  155. 13:52
    Max C. Luscher

    Okay.

  156. 13:53
    Hakan Kodal

And Ando is also a little bit of, you know, a famous Japanese architect, is a little bit of Asian connotation. And also it's a bed in Japanese. So it's like living and let's go. So it's connecting, but at the same time feeling to a, you know, location belonging to a neighborhood. So Ando is— you feel not anymore a tourist, but local.

  157. 14:18
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So that's what I will do next time in Lisbon. I come to Lisbon to see my friend, but also to see you.

  158. 14:24
    Hakan Kodal

Arno is your local friend. So you come to Arno, it's your local friend. We are here to advise you what to do.

  159. 14:30
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Cool. Let's record a longer episode of the Hotel Podcast next time in Lisbon.

  160. 14:34
    Hakan Kodal

    Thank you.

  161. 14:35
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

All the best. See you soon.

  162. 14:36
    Hakan Kodal

    Thank you.

  163. 14:36
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Thanks.

  164. 14:37
    Hakan Kodal

    Pleasure. Thank you.

  165. 14:38
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Are you nervous, Markus?

  166. 14:40
    Markus Lehnert

    I'm not really nervous.

  167. 14:41
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Not really nervous?

  168. 14:43
    Markus Lehnert

No, I think it's nice to have IHEF back where it has been. It's nice to see a lot of people still around. I like the optimism, and I must say it's great to be back and see what we've been seeing for almost a quarter of a century.

  169. 15:06
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And you have such a nice villa here.

  170. 15:09
    Markus Lehnert

This stand is— yeah, it gives us a lot of room to promote various brands that we feel How many do you have at the moment? Oh, 32.

  171. 15:19
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    32?

  172. 15:20
    Markus Lehnert

    32. But we have Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, which is sort of a relatively new entrant and very promising with larger apartments. So we try to create a little bit of an atmosphere what that's like.

  173. 15:35
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Nice.

  174. 15:35
    Markus Lehnert

Then we have our Four Points Coffee Barista. one of the best coffees. I mean, you can basically make your star signs in the cappuccino.

  175. 15:50
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  176. 15:51
    Markus Lehnert

So, don't take an espresso, take a cappuccino. And so, we have always an opportunity, like a platform, like a canvas where we can promote certain brands that we feel need attention.

  177. 16:05
    Navneet Bali

    Yeah.

  178. 16:06
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And in Zurich last year in Kaufleuten, You said, and your most important brand is still Bonvoy. Bonvoy, yeah.

  179. 16:13
    Markus Lehnert

So Bonvoy is the umbrella. Bonvoy is—

  180. 16:16
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

I really liked what you said, and I'm thinking about it quite often.

  181. 16:22
    Markus Lehnert

Bonvoy is continuing to grow. We started about 5 years ago with 110 million members. We're now at 182 million members.

  182. 16:33
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Incredible.

  183. 16:33
    Markus Lehnert

And because they're all recent members, We can assume that they're alive and booking. So that's beautiful, and it's an incredible power and an incredible database that we can, you know, show our brands to.

  184. 16:50
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Yeah, so we'll see each other again in Zurich. Perhaps we can see earlier in your office for a longer episode of Hotel Podcast. Looking forward to it.

  185. 17:04
    Markus Lehnert

And we might actually have another little brand for you.

  186. 17:08
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay, so 33?

  187. 17:10
    Markus Lehnert

Yeah, number 33 is in the coming.

  188. 17:13
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, please send me an invitation and then we—

  189. 17:15
    Markus Lehnert

    Happy to.

  190. 17:17
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

I will ask you some questions about in the Hotel Podcast.

  191. 17:19
    Markus Lehnert

    Please do.

  192. 17:19
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Thanks, Marcos.

  193. 17:20
    Markus Lehnert

    See you.

  194. 17:21
    Navneet Bali

    Bye-bye.

  195. 17:21
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

We are back here on the Hotel Podcast, this time not in Munich but in Berlin. I think last time when we recorded our longer episode of the Hotel Podcast, You just received some money. Yeah. How much did you spend already? Yeah, we're trying to speed up in spending the money.

  196. 17:40
    Markus Lehnert

    Okay.

  197. 17:40
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Now obviously expansion is going very, very well. So we have signed already like this first quarter in Germany around 500 units almost. 500 units this quarter.

  198. 17:51
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  199. 17:51
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And we also like recently expanded to Portugal and have 115 units now under contract. Lisbon and Porto. Okay, so I think it's quite a big bang for a small country, and we're super happy to be there. So yeah, you already mentioned Portugal during the Hotel Podcast last time, and I think Italy was one of the newest markets. Yeah, Italy, it's a bit too early to announce something, but the pipeline is full and we're quite optimistic that something will happen soon. Okay, nice. Josef, thanks again. Let's meet each other again in Munich for the next update. Looking forward to it. Or Madrid.

  200. 18:26
    Navneet Bali

    Or Madrid?

  201. 18:27
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay. Nice to meet you, Christian.

  202. 18:30
    Christian Michel

    Nice to meet you too.

  203. 18:31
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Here in Berlin. So where are you based normally? Where, where do you come from?

  204. 18:35
    Christian Michel

I'm Swiss. I'm working for Wyndham for the last 19 years and working from home. So home-based.

  205. 18:42
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  206. 18:43
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Swiss guy working from home. That's it.

  207. 18:46
    Navneet Bali

    Yeah.

  208. 18:46
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Nice. And so give us a short update about the world of Wyndham. What's happening at the moment? What are your current projects?

  209. 18:55
    Christian Michel

I mean, we are here in Berlin to basically promote our company, and it's all about development. So here I'm with my team, the developers. So we have developers in all different countries, in Turkey, in Greece, in UK, also in Spain, in Poland, and here in Germany. And we look at new opportunities and we sign franchise agreements. So this is why we are here. currently at the fair. What is really a little new for us, I mean, we are coming every year in the same place, but last year we have bought Vienna Haus. So it's the first time that— second time that the company has bought a European brand. And now we did the integration.

  210. 19:39
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Very nice one, Vienna Haus.

  211. 19:40
    Christian Michel

It is a very nice brand. We have different tiers: Vienna Haus Easy, Vienna Haus, and Handel. We are very pleased and now looking at new opportunities to develop that brand and move forward that brand all over Europe, let's say, and eventually also in the Middle East and Africa.

  212. 19:57
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And interesting thing that Sascha Dahlig told me last time on the Hotel Podcast during the ITB, that Vienna House might even be a European brand that can, yeah, could be even interesting for markets abroad in the States.

  213. 20:14
    Christian Michel

Yes, we did that once, the exercise with our Tryp by Wyndham brands. So we bought it from Meliá, and the idea is instead of taking a brand from the US and bringing it here, we continue to expand the brand Tryp here in Europe, in all the market. But we decided to bring that brand back to the US where it was a good fit, it was a good product, and the possibility for our developers there to have a new brand to promote.

  214. 20:41
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Christian, thanks a lot.

  215. 20:42
    Christian Michel

    You're welcome.

  216. 20:43
    Max C. Luscher

    All the best.

  217. 20:44
    Christian Michel

    Thank you.

  218. 20:44
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    And see you soon.

  219. 20:45
    Christian Michel

    Thank you for passing by.

  220. 20:48
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Thank you. Has to be in English. So nice, Hubert.

  221. 20:54
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Hi, Ronald, how are you?

  222. 20:55
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

I'm well, I'm fine. Yeah, very good time.

  223. 20:58
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Welcome to our Yotel stand.

  224. 20:59
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Yeah, the new brand that I discovered here during the IHIF in Berlin. Yeah, your brand is called Yotel and you're from France, so do you come originally?

  225. 21:09
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Yeah, I'm from France, although I've been in the UK, in London for over 8 years. So ever since I was fortunate enough to take over Yotel and to relaunch the company through growth across the world.

  226. 21:26
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, I will just have a look here. Ah, there are even some Yotels in the States.

  227. 21:31
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Yeah, we started in the States actually.

  228. 21:34
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    And in Australia even?

  229. 21:35
    Arnoud Vink

    Wow.

  230. 21:36
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Our first hotel, our first hotel opened in London.

  231. 21:38
    Max C. Luscher

    Okay.

  232. 21:39
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

To be honest, it was an airport hotel called Yotel Air London Gatwick. And that was back in 2008. And ever since then, we grew in 2011 outside of the airport into a city urban lifestyle brand product through the Yotel brand. And our first hotel in the urban hotel was in New York.

  233. 22:02
    Navneet Bali

    Okay, nice.

  234. 22:02
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

So we've seen significant growth across the US in our brand. And after, or whilst we were doing this, we decided maybe it's time to come back to Europe. We started growing our brand back in the UK where we now have 7 hotels.

  235. 22:16
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  236. 22:16
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

And we've got very extensive expansion plans for Europe.

  237. 22:20
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Cool. Sounds really interesting. Today we don't have so much time, but if I want to come to you just for a longer episode of the Hotel Podcast, Where do we find you? In London, usually. In London, usually. Okay, okay. I already mentioned earlier today that my dream is— my next dream, actually— to record the Hotel Podcast in London.

  238. 22:44
    Arnoud Vink

    Okay.

  239. 22:44
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So it was with Cheval Collection, with Mohamed from Cheval Collection. He already invited me, so now I invited myself to you as well. Really looking forward to this.

  240. 22:54
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

We'll be very happy to have you in London.

  241. 22:56
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay, see you.

  242. 22:56
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Very nice to see you.

  243. 22:57
    Navneet Bali

    Bye-bye.

  244. 22:57
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Thank you.

  245. 22:57
    Navneet Bali

    Ciao.

  246. 22:58
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So what are we talking about? Good question. So short update from Lindner Hotels and Resorts here during the IHIF. So welcome, Timo Patt. It's the first time that you're on the Hotel Podcast. Yes, thank you so much for having me. Yeah, we're here at the Hyatt booth, our new strategic partner since last October. And today really marks a great day for us because we were able to announce 3 addings of the portfolio. One in Berlin? One in Berlin, there where we are. Then we're looking to Boltenhagen, so a really interesting destination on the Eastern Sea in Germany. And we have Lübeck as a secondary city here, quite integrated market, but for us and me and all for the boutique hotel, right, a great spot.

  247. 23:46
    Markus Lehnert

    Nice.

  248. 23:47
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And yeah, I'm sleeping at the Lindner Hotel Kudamm, so I really enjoy the stay. And yeah, looking forward to the next breakfast with you tomorrow morning. Yeah, we will. I mean, I think Lindner here at Kudamm has a phenomenal location, something that you're really looking at a city right to the bustling heart of the Kurfürstendamm and to that fair directly per foot for like 15 minutes. So that's what future hospitality is like.

  249. 24:11
    Navneet Bali

    Cool.

  250. 24:11
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Timo, thanks again. Thanks again, Ronald. And yeah, I'm looking forward to another Hotel Podcast, even with Arno Schwalie within a few weeks. And yeah, that's good. Thanks. Bye. See you soon. And thanks for joining the Hotel Podcast today.

  251. 24:24
    Arnoud Vink

    Yeah, Ronald, thank you.

  252. 24:26
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Very, very short episode today, unfortunately, but I'm already looking forward to our episode in Amsterdam one day, or even in Paris where you're based.

  253. 24:36
    Arnoud Vink

I'm happy to come wherever you are. Also happy to come to Zurich. And tell everything about the adventures that were happening today within Choice. It's very exciting times for our company, especially in Europe.

  254. 24:50
    Navneet Bali

    Yeah.

  255. 24:51
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So you enjoyed the 3 days here in Berlin today? Yeah, I loved it.

  256. 24:55
    Arnoud Vink

I loved it. Yeah, sure. It was a lot of work. I think every half an hour on average I had a different meeting. And, you know—

  257. 25:05
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Because you accepted all the meetings, huh? Sometimes people accept it.

  258. 25:10
    Arnoud Vink

I tried to— I had a few finally who couldn't show up, but that's part of the deal because it's always—

  259. 25:17
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    You are one of them.

  260. 25:19
    Arnoud Vink

    Sorry?

  261. 25:19
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

You are one of them that accepted but didn't show up afterwards. Did I do that? No, no, not for me.

  262. 25:24
    Arnoud Vink

I never do so. I never do so. I just saw you there and immediately said yes. So you're right, I don't understand why you're complaining.

  263. 25:32
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

No, the Choice Hotels Quite well.

  264. 25:35
    Arnoud Vink

    Yes.

  265. 25:35
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Because there was another Hotel-Podcast episode, a longer version, a few weeks or months ago.

  266. 25:40
    Navneet Bali

    Yes.

  267. 25:41
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And yeah, give us a short update about what's happening at the moment.

  268. 25:46
    Arnoud Vink

    In Europe?

  269. 25:48
    Navneet Bali

    In Europe, yeah, why not?

  270. 25:48
    Arnoud Vink

Yeah, please. Well, you know, you did this podcast that you did, especially for the German-speaking markets. And what we're doing right now is really rolling out the strategy we have decided. and focus ourselves on Germany, France, and the UK. And what we've been doing this year is setting up a lot of partnerships within these markets. Yesterday, we signed a new partnership with a Dutch-based but also German-based hotel operator, which is called Borealis.

  271. 26:23
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Oh yeah, I know them.

  272. 26:24
    Arnoud Vink

    Yeah, you know them.

  273. 26:25
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

He was one of them who accepted the meeting but didn't show up.

  274. 26:29
    Arnoud Vink

Okay, well, I'll tell him afterwards. And no, maybe we're together then because we're drinking beer, you know, because to party, and we're so happy to set up our partnership.

  275. 26:46
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Oh, like comrades.

  276. 26:46
    Arnoud Vink

Yeah, very happy. And this is basically what we're doing today, is setting partnerships in all the key markets we're seeing in Europe. And to be able to roll out the brand refresh that we've done in Europe, which has been set up 2 years ago during COVID Choice Europe, EMEA went back to rethinking its brand, adapting its brand to the markets. We're ready now. We're setting up partnerships. We're discussing new contracts. We have a lot of discussions going on. And we hope in not too— before the end of the year to do some big announcements with new signage.

  277. 27:27
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, so we'll stay in contact.

  278. 27:29
    Arnoud Vink

    Gotcha.

  279. 27:30
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

See you soon. Thanks for today.

  280. 27:32
    Arnoud Vink

Yeah, thank you very much. Happy to be there. Cool. Okay, thanks.

  281. 27:36
    Navneet Bali

    Bye-bye.

  282. 27:36
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So, Martin, you're back on the Hotel Podcast. Really nice. Not a long time ago that we met each other in Berlin. And so now the big news are out. And we meet each other in Berlin again. So there you go. Again in Berlin, yeah. And soon in Leipzig, huh?

  283. 27:53
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

Yeah, well, I mean, we're opening in December in Leipzig.

  284. 27:56
    Max C. Luscher

    That's true.

  285. 27:57
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Now we all know it will be December, it will be 2023. Yeah, hopefully. We hope so. We're working on it. But yeah, I mean, it's exciting for us to bring the first property live. We've also closed a strategic partnership with With Combined Transaction, which will be our exclusive partner for expansion and rollout in the top 7 locations in Germany.

  286. 28:22
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

We secured the first couple of, you know, LOIs and yeah, trying to grow the brand. I think time is there to do it.

  287. 28:33
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So we'll see each other again in Leipzig or perhaps even a little bit earlier. in Berlin. All the best for the rest of the year.

  288. 28:41
    Arnoud Vink

    Thank you.

  289. 28:42
    Navneet Bali

    Bye.

  290. 28:43
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

There we go. Jan-Heringer from Leonardo Hotels Group. Thanks for joining the Hotel Podcast.

  291. 28:48
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    Thank you.

  292. 28:48
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Will be a short episode today, but I'm quite interested in what you're doing at Leonardo and since when.

  293. 28:55
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

So I'm with Leonardo since 2010.

  294. 28:58
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  295. 28:58
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

So this is already quite a long time. I'm responsible for the development part of Central Europe.

  296. 29:04
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  297. 29:04
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

And so we're now on 256 hotels and We're with the company since 25 years.

  298. 29:11
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  299. 29:12
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

So we did a fast development in the last years and we would love to close more deals in the next couple of years. And for that reason, it's good to be over here on the IHF.

  300. 29:22
    Markus Lehnert

    Okay.

  301. 29:23
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    And you're still speeding up?

  302. 29:24
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

Yeah, we're still speeding up. We did 19 deals last year.

  303. 29:28
    Arnoud Vink

    Wow.

  304. 29:29
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

Yeah, all through Europe. And so as we're just starting to raise a new partnership, We will hopefully confirm this mid of this year, and we will be able to do hopefully another 20 to 25 deals this year.

  305. 29:44
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, so 19 last year, 20 to 25 this year.

  306. 29:47
    Navneet Bali

    Great.

  307. 29:48
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

And partnerships, it means that you're talking to a group of hotels with—

  308. 29:51
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

No, no, partnership means that we're raising money.

  309. 29:54
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  310. 29:54
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

So we are part— so we are mostly in between 25 and 30% part of this partnership.

  311. 30:00
    Navneet Bali

    Okay.

  312. 30:01
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

Interesting. We will raise a kind of fund, or we can call it partnership.

  313. 30:06
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  314. 30:06
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

And with this partnership, we're doing the acquisition of new hotels all through Europe.

  315. 30:11
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Okay, so you say that you're in charge of the Central Europe region. Are there any markets that are still— where it's still a little bit blank?

  316. 30:19
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

Unfortunately, we've got a big white spot, and this is France. And so we have to—

  317. 30:25
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

I used to live in France, and I even studied there, but So then we have to— maybe we have to— What's the problem?

  318. 30:30
    Arnoud Vink

    Communication.

  319. 30:31
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Cultural difference?

  320. 30:33
    Max C. Luscher

    No, no, no.

  321. 30:33
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

If you haven't did— if you didn't do the first step, it's always hard. If you did the first step, it's easier to do the second step. So for that reason, we will start. We had to promise David Vetal that we will close the first 5 deals this year. So we're working on this.

  322. 30:47
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Okay.

  323. 30:47
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

So we would love to start with Paris and then also the other major cities.

  324. 30:51
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

In France, you always have to start in Paris.

  325. 30:53
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

We have to start in Paris and the second step It could be Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon, maybe Cannes, Strasbourg. So we're discussing this. And for all the other countries, we would love to go in the major capital cities.

  326. 31:06
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

    Cool.

  327. 31:07
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

As we are already. So we would go for more hotels in Milano, in Italy, in Rome. We would love to go more hotels in Vienna. We would love to go to Geneva, the major cities in Germany, etc. And also of course UK, Ireland, as we are over there with over 50 hotels, but still place for new hotels.

  328. 31:29
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

Do you know where the name Leonardo comes from?

  329. 31:31
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

Yeah, Leonardo. So we bought the first hotel in 2007 in Germany. It was in Nuremberg and it was already named Leonardo. And for that reason, David Fertal made a decision, okay, we will do all the hotels as Leonardo.

  330. 31:46
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

It's a nice, nice, nice, nice European name. It is international. So even French guys will understand Leonardo?

  331. 31:53
unklar, zwei Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Jan Heringa und Philipp Henle

Even French guys will be happy with Leonardo hotels, I'm very sure.

  332. 31:56
Ronald M. Arndt (Host; die Passagen von Josef Vollmayr und Timo Patte sind im Transkript falsch ihm zugeordnet)

So I'm traveling home to Stuttgart. I go to Munich. You go to Munich? Okay, all the best and thanks again for joining.

  333. 32:03
    Navneet Bali

    Thank you. Thanks, Jan.

  334. 32:04
unklar, mehrere Gäste unter einem Buchstaben: Mohammed Alawadhi, Hubert Viriot, Martin Egner

    See you soon. Bye-bye.
