Kernaussagen

  4. Licht, Material, Raum: Timon Grau von der Hamburger Leuchtenfirma Grau und Corinna von Vitra sprechen auf der Bühne über Licht und Design. Beide Firmen tauchen oft in denselben Räumen auf.

    Ronald M. Arndt

    Time to celebrate, huh?

  2. 00:02
    Martin

Uh, too early, a little bit too early, I would say. A little bit too early, yeah. Not yet. It's just the beginning. The best is yet to come.

  3. 00:07
    Ronald M. Arndt

And you just told me that you started the BEAM Summit together with Thomas, or tell us.

  4. 00:13
    Martin

Yes, actually, um, I was, uh, privileged enough to, uh, launch the idea and to, um, yeah, have a little bit of a kind of an elevator pitch with Thomas to say, okay, listen, uh, don't think about the hospitality as a silo, like the hotels, the restaurants, the manufacturers, or the, the agriculture. It's an organic circle. And why don't we create, let's call it, the Davos of hospitality?

  5. 00:41
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Yeah, yeah.

  6. 00:41
    Martin

Uh, where you bring the bravest, uh, the greatest visionaries and pioneers of our industry together. And that's what BEAM stands for, actually.

  7. 00:51
    Ronald M. Arndt

So you're from the region, or where do you Come from?

  8. 00:55
    Martin

    Actually, I'm from—

  9. 00:57
    Victor

    Martin.

  10. 00:57
    Martin

Martin. My name is Martin. Actually, I'm an entrepreneur from Munich. We are running a vegan and gluten-free patisserie. We're doing this European-wide. And actually, I started this heart project 4 years ago when I was still in the consulting business, actually.

  11. 01:16
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Great. So cheers.

  12. 01:17
    Martin

    Cheers.

  13. 01:18
    Ronald M. Arndt

    All the best.

  14. 01:18
    Martin

    Have a great time.

  15. 01:19
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Have a great— you too.

  17. 01:28
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah, great, great idea. Great, uh, vision actually. Yeah. Davos of hospitality.

  18. 01:33
    Martin

    Thank you.

  19. 01:33
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah, you're welcome. 2 Germans again, huh? Hamburg, Freiburg, but Berlin. Yeah.

  20. 01:39
    Matteo Piano

    Originally?

  21. 01:39
    Corinna

    Originally from Berlin.

  22. 01:40
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah. Welcome to South Tyrol. It's your first time here? First time. At the BEAM Summit even?

  23. 01:45
    Vanessa

    Okay.

  24. 01:45
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Yours as well, huh?

  25. 01:47
    Timon Grau

    First time also.

  26. 01:48
    unklar

    Yeah.

  27. 01:49
    Ronald M. Arndt

And what's the reason? Why? It's quite far away, huh? From Germany.

  28. 01:55
    Timon Grau

I mean, we come here to speak, to share some knowledge, hopefully that people like and inspire. Um, share some thoughts about light and design.

  29. 02:06
    Corinna

It's about feeling the space. So light and material.

  30. 02:09
    Ronald M. Arndt

Great. So what's your background? What's your, what's your name?

  31. 02:12
    Timon Grau

I'm Timon Grau. Um, and I'm part of Grau, a lighting company from Hamburg.

  32. 02:17
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Mm-hmm.

  33. 02:18
    Timon Grau

And we, yeah, we produce emotional lighting for different spaces, hospitality, for home, for offices.

  34. 02:25
    unklar

    Yeah.

  35. 02:26
    Ronald M. Arndt

Right. There's a link to furniture from Vitra.

  36. 02:29
    Corinna

There are actually also a lot of spaces designed with Vitra furniture and Grau lighting. So, um, that's a good fit. And yeah, that's me, Corinna, and, um, work for the hospitality sector for Vitra.

  37. 02:41
    Ronald M. Arndt

Cool. So have a nice evening.

  38. 02:43
    Corinna

    Thank you.

  39. 02:44
    Ronald M. Arndt

Have a wonderful 2 days. Uh, at Bozen and see you tomorrow again.

  40. 02:48
    Corinna

    See you tomorrow.

  41. 02:50
    Vanessa

    Thanks.

  42. 02:50
    Timon Grau

    See you tomorrow.

  43. 02:50
    Ronald M. Arndt

Welcome to BEAM 2026. It's your first time here?

  44. 02:54
    Matteo Piano

Yes. Uh, well, not the first time at BEAM, yes, but not the first time in Bolzano.

  45. 02:57
    Ronald M. Arndt

Okay. Yeah. Tell us a little bit about you.

  46. 02:59
    Matteo Piano

My name is Matteo Piano. Uh, I'm an Italian, but I live in the Netherlands. I was raised in Belgium and, um, together with my wife, we created a company, actually 2 companies. One is in consulting. And branding, and the other one is a new food development and specialized in plant-based and microbial foods. And, uh, late years we are actually focusing more how can we offer these type of foods to the gastronomy market, to the food service market. That's so the kind of work we are doing.

  47. 03:30
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah. Interesting to hear because food, hotels, so it's hospitality in the end.

  48. 03:34
    Matteo Piano

Yes. Hospitality, food service. So we are working a lot for catering, mm-hmm, develop food for catering, of course, restaurants. But, uh, it, it's a, it's a world that is actually growing, especially when we are talking about plant-based, when we're talking about macro bio foods.

  49. 03:50
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Yeah.

  50. 03:51
    Matteo Piano

    Yeah. It's something that's growing.

  51. 03:53
    Ronald M. Arndt

Is there one conversation you're looking for here at, at BEAM?

  52. 03:56
    Matteo Piano

Well, actually, over the next 2 days, I like to be really submerged in the world of hospitality and to try to create a team of people who approach food in hospitality from different point of views. Because I believe that an ecosystem can only succeed when people of different expertise work together to a result. And that's what I'm trying to find here. Yes. And of course, we are also in South Tyrol, which is a bit between Austria and Italy.

  53. 04:28
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Sure.

  54. 04:28
    Matteo Piano

And I think that is a great, great mix for the kind of products we want to develop.

  55. 04:32
    Ronald M. Arndt

Right. So let's get our first drink as we are at the beginning. Yeah, and let's have fun.

  56. 04:38
    Matteo Piano

    Thank you. Thank you.

  57. 04:39
    unklar

Oh, the mic was not on. It's the old Eminem trick.

  58. 04:43
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah, you know, you're here, it's always on the mic if you're here. Yeah, true.

  59. 04:48
    unklar

So what's the point, man? What are we doing here?

  60. 04:50
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah, where are we today? We're not in Berlin as we had a podcast a few weeks ago.

  61. 04:54
    unklar

We're not in Berlin, we're not in Stuttgart, um, but we're in, um, in Bolzano, in Bozen, which is, um, An amazing place to be, and I wish you all could be here as well. We're at the Beam. The Beam is for me one of the most important fairs, if we can call it a fair, in the world. We have a place— oh, look, we get food delivered.

  62. 05:20
    Ronald M. Arndt

Even the food is on the camera, great.

  63. 05:22
    unklar

Yeah, very good. That's the reason why we're in Bozen, because we get food brought. And I like how she ignored you, saying, no, don't bother. No, but what I was about to say, it's actually a summit. It's a Changemaker Summit, and I really enjoyed it last year, and I said I'm going to come again because I really was inspired last year so much. So I have high expectations on this year to get the same way of inspiration.

  64. 05:46
    Ronald M. Arndt

So hand over the mic to another guest of the BEAM Summit. Hello, who are you and where are you from?

  65. 05:52
    Victor

I'm Victor. I'm, uh, happy to be part again in this amazing summit, uh, which we were part of from the beginning actually. So, uh, we are, um, We were in charge as well of some aspects of positioning, idea of branding, and also some aspects of the contents and some speakers. So for me, it's a pleasure that like the world is coming together here in Bolzano and meeting here at BEAM. And yeah, it's an amazing feeling and an amazing—

  66. 06:21
    Ronald M. Arndt

So you're from South Tyrol actually?

  67. 06:23
    Timon Grau

    Yes.

  68. 06:23
    Vanessa

    Yes.

  69. 06:23
    unklar

He can speak in Italian as well because usually when they speak with each other, they speak a certain mixture of German-Italian mix crossovers.

  70. 06:33
    Victor

    Swiss, Südtirolerisch and Italian.

  71. 06:37
    Matteo Piano

    Okay.

  72. 06:37
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Thank you guys.

  73. 06:39
    Martin

    Have fun.

  74. 06:39
    Victor

    Thanks.

  75. 06:39
    Ronald M. Arndt

Thanks a lot. So welcome to Bolzano. It's your first time here or where are you from? Who are you? Tell us.

  76. 06:47
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

    I'm from here actually.

  77. 06:48
    Ronald M. Arndt

    You're from here?

  78. 06:49
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

I'm from South Tyrol, from the Dolomites. So yeah, I'm from here.

  79. 06:52
    Ronald M. Arndt

    You're a hotelier or what's your background?

  80. 06:54
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

No, actually I'm, um, huh, it's, it's, it's not that easy to, to say what I am. I'm a, um, South Tyrol ambassador.

  81. 07:05
    Ronald M. Arndt

Okay, great. So let's continue with you. My name is Constanze. I'm from Fraunhofer IAO from Stuttgart. So I know Stuttgart very well. You as well? Vanessa, the first time at the BEAM or, or your second or?

  82. 07:23
    Vanessa

It's, it's the first time that I'm at BEAM physically, but mentally I enjoyed every BEAM so far.

  83. 07:30
    Ronald M. Arndt

Okay. What kind of conversations you're looking for here during the next 2 days?

  84. 07:36
    Vanessa

Well, what I experienced so far is, um, there are only nice people. They're professionals from the hospitality sector. So you can only have nice conversations over here about topics that are quite connected to hotels and hospitality. Besides of that, um, I think we can talk a lot about culinary experiences of South Tyrol.

  85. 08:05
    Ronald M. Arndt

So, we went here and it's already such a nice atmosphere. Yeah, very typical. That's South Tyrol, huh?

  86. 08:11
    Vanessa

    Actually.

  87. 08:11
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

That's, that's actually South Tyrol. Yes. It's the perfect combination of Alpine and Mediterranean. So, yes, we have, we have the good, oh, we take, we, took the best of both cultures, of the Alpine culture and the Italian culture. So yeah, and we like to show that to you especially. But we talked about already that you're— it's not your first time in Saftrol, so which is great, and you're always coming back. So that's, that's what we like to, to have new people also and people who like to come back to Saftrol and, and yeah, and also, and also to BEAM, obviously, because We are looking forward to an amazing BEAM this year. And yeah.

  88. 08:59
    Ronald M. Arndt

What do you think South Tyrol can teach the world of hospitality? Is there something or is it everything together? It's a package.

  89. 09:08
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

I work a lot with international people and what we, what's our best and what we, what's our best advantage is the family owned properties, family-owned hotels, family-owned restaurants, family-owned bars, pizzerias, whatever, mountain huts. That's what internationally we can really, that's, yeah, that's the best. Right. What, uh, and, and it's also good to, or very important to continue also with the younger generation. And I see also there's a big, um, Yeah, they are, they're very happy to do it. Also the younger generation, obviously in a different way than maybe the parents or the grandparents did, but still, uh, they continue. Yeah. Also in the wineries, for example, not just in hospitality. Yeah. Uh, in hotels or, but, um, or in, yeah, in, in, in other sectors. And that's, that's our, our biggest advantage.

  90. 10:13
    Vanessa

    Yes.

  91. 10:13
    Ronald M. Arndt

Cool. I'm looking forward to meet all these different generations as well of hoteliers. Hopefully. So, youngers, olders, tomorrow and during the next 2 days. Thank you so much and have a nice evening.

  92. 10:24
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

    Thank you.

  93. 10:24
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Thanks.

  94. 10:25
    unklar (Südtirol-Botschafter)

    You too.

  95. 10:25
    Ronald M. Arndt

So, Magnus is back on the Hotel Podcast South Tyrol. Great. And now it's a pre, pre-event here of the BEAM Summit. Where are we? Do you know? We took the bus.

  96. 10:36
    Magnus (Nook Society)

Where we are right now? At Mill. Fantastic restaurant.

  97. 10:42
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Great.

  98. 10:42
    Thomas Ortler

    Yeah, really good.

  99. 10:43
    Magnus (Nook Society)

    Really great.

  100. 10:43
    Ronald M. Arndt

And you already have your drinks, so I have to get mine, uh, later. Um, tell us a little bit who you are and where you're from, because everyone knows Magnus already.

  101. 10:53
    Thomas Ortler

    Okay.

  102. 10:54
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Um, here you go.

  103. 10:54
    Thomas Ortler

So my name is Thomas Ortler, and I'm here from South Tyrol, from Val Venosta or Venosta Valley. And, uh, I'm probably mostly known for the restaurant Florin that I own there and a few others. I write books and yeah. That's basically, ah, and they drink wine a lot.

  104. 11:14
    Ronald M. Arndt

And so restaurants, you, you're, you have your own restaurant here or?

  105. 11:18
    Thomas Ortler

Yes, I have 3 restaurants actually I own.

  106. 11:21
    unklar (Co-Living Tisens)

    Yeah.

  107. 11:21
    Ronald M. Arndt

And, um, oh, that's something South Tyrol is known for in the world of hospitality. Or is there something else?

  108. 11:27
    Thomas Ortler

Uh, yeah, it's probably wine, speck, apples, and hospitality. Yeah. That was, ah, Reinhold Messner, Janik Sinner. Ah, yeah. Janik Sinner. I forgot about that.

  109. 11:39
    Ronald M. Arndt

Reinhold Messner. He's coming past here. It's not far away, huh?

  110. 11:42
    Thomas Ortler

Yeah, it's not too far away. He's, uh, I, I know him quite well. Yeah, he's, he happens to be quite a lot in, in our restaurants. He's a nice guy. Really nice guy.

  111. 11:50
    Ronald M. Arndt

Cool. What's the reason? You are, you're on the, on the stage, huh? Tomorrow or the day after?

  112. 11:54
    Magnus (Nook Society)

Yeah, tomorrow. No, tomorrow morning. So I have to be a little bit careful with the wine, which is fantastic. I see, I see. Um, um, no, um, I, I came here, um, to meet, um, people like, um, like Thomas.

  113. 12:06
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Right.

  114. 12:06
    Magnus (Nook Society)

It's fantastic. Like this, uh, human-centric hospitality that has been celebrated here. Um, I think it's, uh, yeah, it's just very, um, uh, important thing in my life. I just love it to host and to, to, to, to bring people together. And that's what we're talking about right now.

  115. 12:22
    unklar

    Yeah.

  116. 12:22
    Ronald M. Arndt

Great. And for everyone else, there's a nice episode with Magnus from Nook Society already live.

  117. 12:29
    Magnus (Nook Society)

    So watch it.

  118. 12:30
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Big recommendation. Thank you both.

  119. 12:32
    Magnus (Nook Society)

Thank you very much. Cheers. Thank you so much.

  120. 12:34
    Ronald M. Arndt

Bye-bye. We just met at the bar.

  121. 12:36
    unklar (Co-Living Tisens)

    Exactly.

  122. 12:37
    unklar

    Yes.

  123. 12:38
    Ronald M. Arndt

And you're an entrepreneur here from the region?

  124. 12:40
    unklar (Co-Living Tisens)

Yes, basically I'm from Vienna, but I moved here because of love. And I turned an old guesthouse from my wife's grandparents into a vibrant community co-living. And for 6 years now, we're the only one here and we still love it. We met great people, like from all over the world, like mostly from America, Canadian, Australia. And we're lucky to show them like how beautiful it is here.

  125. 13:08
    Ronald M. Arndt

Yeah, there are quite a lot of Americans here, no?

  126. 13:11
    unklar (Co-Living Tisens)

So yes, because like as a co-living, like we offering like a co-working space for them and mostly the Americans know how to do that or it's more possible for them than in the European countries and that's why we have a lot of Americans here and South Americans, but we see that there is more and more coming from Germany and Eastern Europe also. Um, enjoying travel and work and combine this one.

  127. 13:37
    Ronald M. Arndt

So tell us where it is and what's the name of your co-living?

  128. 13:39
    unklar (Co-Living Tisens)

So we're based in Tisas, it's a little village between Merano and Bolzano, and it's called Franz and Matilda Co-Living and Vacation Retreat. And do you have a dream to have a real hotel one day, or, uh, we, we like to stay small because then we can get easily and deeper in touch with our guests, and I think That's for us the, the core value, to be in touch and learn from each other.

  129. 14:02
    Ronald M. Arndt

    Great. So all the best.

  130. 14:04
    unklar (Co-Living Tisens)

    Thank you very much.

  131. 14:05
    Ronald M. Arndt

    From South Tyrol.

  132. 14:06
    unklar

    All the best.

  133. 14:07
    Vanessa

    Thanks.

  134. 14:07
    Ronald M. Arndt

    See you.
